This was the second time, I’ve read this one and it is a good thing I did, because I couldn’t remember reading any of it. By the time I got to the middle of the book, I was seriously doubting I had read it, because nothing was familiar.

I’m glad I re-read it. I would recommend not reading this one until you’ve read “Dark Desires After Dusk,” because the two books are simultaneous. I really like Nix and I’m so glad she shows up so often in this series, because her wiseacre remarks just make me giggle. Rystrom and Sabine are a great couple and I can hardly wait to see them in future books.

I’m just here to keep tabs on Nïx and Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs’s relationship status.

Sabine, Sorceress of Illusions is like my favourite female character ever. She made me laugh so many times that I had to be careful not to choke. She is witty, lustful, cruel. She can also be gentle and kind. And oh yes, she is not some pathetic virgin, um...well, virgin she may be, but only physically. I love strong female characters.
She and Rydstrom Woede, the king of demons, are imperfectly perfect for each other.

She is impulsive and doesn't give a damn about rules, while he is a reasonable, stubborn alpha male. So you can imagine what happens when they clash.
However, even though the characters were amazing, the storyline wasn't.

ORIGINAL REVIEW (12/9/2010):
ORIGINAL RATING (5 STARS)

Oh Rydstrom. Sexy, sexy Rydstrom. First of all, I have to say that I absolutely love the cover of this book. The previous covers of this series have been OKAY, and they're getting better. But I'd have to say that this is the sexiest of them all so far.

But onto the book, which I loved, of course. At this point, I'm not even sure Kresley Cole can write anything I won't like! Sabine took some warming up to. It's hard to tell where her motives lie and if she's going to act nice and then turn her back on Rydstrom. Rydstrom, however, I was drooling over from the beginning. :)

I did really enjoy Sabine's interactions with the other demons in the camp outside the portal, and her one sided conversations with Puck. Those was pretty funny and cute.

The story of Rydstrom and Sabine was different from the others in the series in that she is holding him captive for awhile, rather than the him chasing her (as is prominent in a lot of the other books). But that's quickly turned around, when he escapes and keeps HER captive for awhile. It's sort of cute, how they have that back and forth "gotcha" thing going on.

The love scenes in this one - phew! They were hott. Rydstrom knows how to make a girl drool and aside from my favorite in the series so far (Bowen), he's easily one of my favorite males from the series.

Finally, I'm really really happy about the re-uniting going on with Rydstrom and Cadeon. They had some kiss and makeup sessions that have been long overdue and I was happy to see.

I'm still hoping that Nix gets a story here soon. Although right now she's a really prominent background character, I find her so funny and intriguing. So we'll see what happens there. Kresley Cole is going to have to come up with one hell of a guy for her though! Speaking of Nix, on page #392, she mentions she's taking time off to investigate a band of immortal warriors known as Lords of the Underworld. Although I haven't read the series yet, I wonder if this could possibly be a future crossover with [a:Gena Showalter's|48192|Gena Showalter|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1581848751p2/48192.jpg] [b:Lords of the Underworld|476543|The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1)|Gena Showalter|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1556847781l/476543._SY75_.jpg|464779] series. Could be interesting! (UPDATE: it is talking about those, but there are no collab books between them, just honorable mentions and I've read most of the LOTU books as well now at this point...)

But overall, this was a fantastic book, solid five stars, and I look forward to the next one!
