Rydstrom gets captured by Sabine, the Queen of Illusions, also the sister of Omort the Deathless. Sabine knows that she's Rydstrom's destined bride. She also knows that their child will be the key to unlock the power of the Well of Souls. What does she do? Imprison Rydstrom and seduce him into impregnating her 💀
This is a true enemies to lovers romance. Rydstrom and Sabine hate each other. Sabine's brother also stole Rydstrom's crown. There's a lot of problematic stuff in this book, but it's to be expected since Rydstrom is kept captive by Sabine. And then vice versa.
I did have fun with this book. I love it when authors write intense enemies to lovers romance where the characters truly hate each other. But my issue here is that it takes way too long for Rydstrom and Sabine to build trust. They don't trust each other until the very end and I was worn out at that point. They're both Alpha and they have difficulty ceding control. But I was fed up with how long it took them to trust each other.
To be honest, Sabine and Rydstrom are both annoying LOL. But their dynamic together is explosive. Sabine is an unapologetic badass bitch. She's not perfect and there were moments when she annoyed me, but I still enjoyed her character overall. Same thing with Rydstrom. He's the stoic king of extreme edging...like wow. I felt so bad for Sabine lol.
I'd been looking forward to Rydstrom the most, and while I liked this book, I'm also a bit disappointed. I expected this book to be my favourite in the series. But it took these two way too long to build trust and transition from enemies to lovers. Aside from that, I liked everything else, especially the setting of Rydstrom's lost kingdom.<blockquote><i>"She's my evil bitch. And I'll have no other."</blockquote></i>THAT'S THE ENERGY I NEED FROM MEN 😂
P.S. I'm so intrigued by Lothaire! Such an interesting and unpredictable character.

This is my second time around reading this one and I have to say I even enjoyed it better than the first time. Definitely, one of my favorite series!!!!!

Great Book!! Love the Woede brothers. I really liked Sabine's character in this book. I did think it started out a little slow but I think it was because I was being impatient and from Cole explaining new characters. I can't say enough about the IAD series, it just gets better and better. Kresley Cole is truly gifted.

After getting to the prophecy I was like “great, second story in a row about getting a character pregnant,” but that ended up being more secondary to the rest of the story (at least after the first like, 30%) so I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It still wasn’t my favorite despite liking both of the characters.

Definitely lived up to the hype. Both Sabine and Rydstrom were fantastic characters and I loved how complex their relationship was and how it developed along with how both of them were able to give as much as they got from each other.
