I loved this book- very well written with a unique concept. I enjoyed reading about the dance/ gymnastic parts as I am a dancer- I'm sure many readers could relate to this book too. Readers aged 9-13!?

< POSITIVES >
○ Ellen-Jane's guilt over her mother's death ~ if she had have been a boy, her mother wouldn't have wanted another child, plus, if her father hadn't prevented her getting the midwife alcohol, she might've got through the childbirth and Hetty wanting to leave the circus she longed to join for so long because she was moody Madame Adeline was forced out, so Ellen-Jane messed up a performance and anticipated punishment were well plotted.
○ I think the boys' personalities were distinctive! I especially liked Tag! How did I read this last only two years ago and not recall things like Madame Adeline and Mr Marvel going off together?

< NEGATIVES >
○ For some reason, I seemed impatient and bored, reading this book. I don't know why!

< NEUTRAL >
○ Whilst looking for this book's non-existent Wikipedia, I wondered, because an article about it came up instead, had the queen's Diamond Jubilee a year before influence the book/character name?

Quite scandalous

I do feel sorry for the child

She has an abusive dad (can’t relate lol) and her mum blames her for all her problems

I did cry a bit when she was sold by her dad to the circus dude- so rude omg

Hetty feather is rather fab

Quite scandalous

How is it that Dame Jacqueline Wilson can write about the most devastating things happening to children and I still eat it up and find it enjoyable? I'm not sure, but this has definitely been the case with this book.

Running away to the circus and then running away from it, what neat little bookends in Hetty's otherwise rather messy life... I adored the shift in POV for this instalment and the very meta bits about Hetty's memoirs: 'I think maybe three great fat volumes are enough -- for the moment, anyway. It is your turn now, Diamond.'

I loved the three dear silver brothers, of course, whether or not it was because they reminded me of my own darling daydream of the Brotherhood. I mean, lovely big Marvo and poor dear relatable Julip did, anyway. And scrappy young Tag... I've read and loved so many books about boys like him, I couldn't help loving him by the end, too. The characters are always among the strong points in every one of Jacqueline Wilson's books, so it's no surprise I always end up having favourites.

1000/5* for bright little Diamond's story.

Another Hetty Feather novel but from the point of view of the young girl she met at the circus. It has the brilliant Jacqueline Wilson highs and lows and I thoroughly enjoyed this one in the series.
