I finished this and started again immediately. Don't recall the last time I did that. Proof he deserves his place among the very best short story writers.

A modest collection of spare, gritty tales by Carver. Although I thoroughly enjoyed this book, Carver's style leans heavily on the legacy of Hemingway's sinewy prose, often to the brink of pastiche. But what ultimately renders the comparison trivial is Carver's cast: his characters are haunting and alienated, strange in a way that Hemingway never got near. More than any contemporary fiction I've read recently, these stories stuck with me.

Desalentador, inquietante; a veces enigmático, casi siempre brillante.

I don't remember the last time I read some short stories - these were easy to read, but the more you read, especially when you get 4-5 stories read, the more sense they all seem to make. "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love" was my favorite.
