An incredible study on showing what needs to be shown and nothing else. I can't say all of these stories are interesting because of how narrow the characters are (so many alcoholic, outdoorsy, alpha male types) but some of them were, mostly the ones that focused on a single moment in time.
Carver's title story is perfect, and sometimes that gives him the right.

refreshing to live so many lives so vividly and quickly. masterful short stories. i do not think this will be my last read of the book.

Since I discovered this book through my favorite movie, Stuck in Love, I had very high expectations before I started reading. Luckily, this book met them all. The stories in this book were quick, and the entire book is a very quick, relaxing read. This would be a great book to bring to the beach or on a plane. The title story was my favorite, but each story in here had me captivated. Never once did I tire of this book or want to put it down, and that's what makes it a 5-star read for me.
