I wish I had read this book when I was a bit younger, the same age as the protagonists. I feel that way not because this book doesn't work for me as an older reader, but because I think it would have helped and comforted me in a way I needed more back then. This is a solid YA wlw romance book. I think it would make a great movie as well, and it's kind of similar to Crush that came out on Hulu. Molly and Alex challenge each other in positive ways, and it's beautiful to see their friendship naturally grow. I was really rooting for both of them not just in terms of the romance but in their own lives and their individual struggles.

This book has been on my list for over a year now, and it did not disappoint!
I went into it not knowing much about the story and I was pleasantly surprised by the depth the characters have, and the real life problems they face.

I wasn't expecting the toxic behavior of the mothers of both main characters to have such a big role, but it was done very well

This is a perfect enemies-to-friends-to-lovers sapphic romance. Molly is riddled with anxiety, nursing a hopeless crush. Alex's easy-going, flirtatious attitude belies real pain. When Alex offers to help Molly 'get the girl' in an attempt to prove to her estranged girlfriend that she can indeed have a real friendship, the two instantly butt heads. But as Molly becomes a braver version of herself, and Alex starts to open up, the two become friends. Slowly, they each start to realise that the girl they were trying to get isn't exactly what they're looking for - and maybe their new friend is.

Loved this! The dual POV worked very well for this story, and I adored the main characters. Alex and Molly had a bit of a Meet-Disaster, and quickly went into annoying each other at every opportunity as they pursued relationships with other girls. The development of their relationship from hesitant friends to very close and falling hard for each other was so fun to read and I loved seeing how they made each other better, working on their flaws.

The secondary focus on mother-daughter relationships was very well written. Alex and her struggle with her mother's alcohol addiction added a lot of depth to her character and life, as well as a heartfelt depiction of how addiction can tear apart families and the strength it takes to seek help. And Molly! Her anxiety paired with her mother trying to take charge and accidentally controlling her life, smothering her, and making her feel shame for her Korean heritage -- the strength it takes to speak out against a beloved family member is treated well and I related a lot to her.

Also, the fake date? The coaching on flirting? The trust they feel when they get closer, feeling at home with each other? What a love story! I adore these two and it was so nice to read such a lighthearted and hopeful book.
