This is exactly what I needed to kick off my summer. It is so cute and wholesome. I absolutely loved all the characters, and I loved where they were at in their life. Too many queer books focus on coming out and coming to terms with one's sexuality. These are great, but they are often so sad. This was just pure lesbian joy, and that is exactly what I needed to get my summer going.

The writing was pretty good. I didn't bump it all the way up to five stars because there were just too many pop culture references for me.

I finished She Gets The Girl and I LOVE IT!!!
The plot is so cute and even though the back of the book already mentions the end, the plot surprised me. It moved super fast, so it was a light read - at least for me. It does talk about a few topics - such as toxic relationships, alcoholism, and adoption trauma.

The characters are so sweet. The way they slowly fell in love without realising was incredibly well and believable written. I hope they live happily ever after.

Speaking of characters: the book is super diverse in a subtle way. There are (half) Asian characters as well as a lot of queer people especially lesbians and even a person that uses they/them pronouns. There's also social anxiety representation.

Language wise it wasn't challenging. Yet, the way the authors play with words is magnificent. It's simply and still brilliantly written. So in case your first language isn't English and your looking for beginner friendly books, look no further.

I recommend this book to all the young lesbians out there that might be a bit intimated by the though of dating or asking out another girl/woman.

To Rachel Lippincott and Alyson Derrick: Thank you for writing this!!!

This book is incredibly charming! I had so much fun with the characters, even laughing out loud at some parts.

My favorite thing about this book is the age of the characters. I’ve read so few YA novels that take place in college and often they end up skewing younger or older. This one really works though as the characters actually feel college-aged.

The one negative is that this book has side plots about some heavier topics that don’t feel fully fleshed out. The authors were trying to make the story more well-rounded and make the characters feel more dynamic. However, I think some things feel a bit shoe-horned in.

I would say to go in expecting a cute, light-hearted romance! I enjoyed this book immensely despite its flaws and genuinely didn’t want it to end!

I received an eARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
