these fucking books... this one took me unnecessarily long to finish because I've had exams, and I just moved into a new apartment.. (yep, at the same time as my exams, don't recommend)

however, it didn't make me like it any less. i definetely think it could've been paced better in the beginning, since it took a WHILE for things to really start happening - it also kind of pissed me off to reread moments i'd read from neil's pov in the kings men, in jean's pov - but apart from that i ADORED it. it had me laughing and sobbing and kicking my feet, and in typical all for the game fashion, all of that could happen in the span of two pages. and i'm not exaggerating.

noras writing has evolved SO much since the og 3, and some quotes literally had my jaw drop, sobbing and gasping for air on the floor or both at the same time. you can definetely tell, it's been years since she wrote the "old" books, because the use of slurs from the original ones? poof, gone. and i appreciate that. times change, and even though the books didn't actually have a time jump, i think they're a testiment to that.

jean moreau i would kill for you. seriously. it’s impressive that nora was able to follow up neil’s trilogy with a new, equally broken (both physically and psychologically), and easily lovable protagonist.

aftg was always a series that was very character-focused but there was always an underlying plot driving the story forward. this book on the other hand is almost exclusively focused on jean’s healing journey and i enjoyed it so wholeheartedly. being able to see jean’s character develop from the mysterious and slightly pathetic side character we saw in the kings men was such a treat, he easily made it onto the list of some of my absolutely favourite characters.

jeremy jeremy jeremyyyyyyy. i adored this man from the briefest introduction at the end of the og trilogy and i knew i would only love him more and boy oh boy. sunshine. a literal golden retriever. he is so kind and patient. the way jean and jeremy contrast each other is beautiful and i can only see their relationship developing further as one of unrelenting trust and protection.

LOVE LOVE LOVE cat and laila also. i’m giddy to have new side characters who i love with equal strength to the foxes.
