first rating kinda nervous... but on a real note I went into reading this thinking it was going to be sappy romance but it a good way, but to my surprise it was more story oriented than romance if you get what I'm putting down? It disappointed me cause I thought we were gonna get a "love hard" (corny xmas romance movie from netflix) type book and I was left with a kinda lengthy read with only romance nearing the end leaving me with an empty feeling. my romance needs in this book were like not met but if you like cinematography and drama and I GUESS a little friends to frienemies to lovers then this is the book for you, but unfortunately, it wasn't for me, hope you like it better than me!

I enjoyed reading this YA contemporary although it wasn't truly a standout or that memorable.

I found it ironic that Saine was somehow relatable yet unlikeable and wasn't someone I would like to root for. I also wish I could've seen more from her history with Holden. Much of the conflict in this book could've been avoided or easily resolved if the characters talked to each other though I can understand why they didn't, because teenagers.

If you're up for some dry and sarcastic banters and a YA take on childhood friends to enemies to lovers trope, then this may be for you.

Thank you so much to HarperCollins Children's Books, HarperTeen, NetGalley and the author for my early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Saine is a character I would have liked to have shaken some sense into.

(longer review to follow)

I mostly enjoyed reading this one. It's a sweet story, and I think very fitting for Young Adult (sometimes I felt like this is the definition of YA). Generally, quite likeable characters who seem genuine and relatable. Some topics are a bit on the tougher side (CW for death, grief, illness) but were discussed in a way suitable for YA. Something I struggled with was the female lead, Saine, who often seems rather immature and selfish. I want to say, "I get where she is coming from", but that would feel wrong. I felt sorry for a lot of people because of her actions - that's probably not a good sign. So I'm on the fence if I could recommend it since I value character over plot. To my mind, a good cast of characters, great character and world-building can offset some plot difficulties. And that's not a total given here. I guess I'll think about it and return to this review. For now, 2 stars.

I quite enjoyed this one. Took me a little longer than usual to read but I still enjoyed the ride.
I mean... I thought it was going to be the One Bed in the Hotel Room Trope or whatever it's called but nope... It was not. But alas, it still had me on the verge of tears to the end! It still amazes me how authors can get so much done within the last 50-100 pages... Like... How?! And must you torture my heart and soul like this, Kelsey?!
