Just not my style… I once picked this up in my twenties to prepare for my teacher exam and now returned to finish it almost 20 years later.

I can recognize the great writing and love some of the streams of consciousness written by the author, but overall, this one is just too many streams of consciousness flowing in and out together for me to keep my interest.

I’m guessing if I read it with a group or for a class I would enjoy it much, much more.

Un capolavoro assoluto. Grande Virginia.

This was such an interesting read. For such a short book, it took me months to finish it. My biggest problem was, like another person commented here, the blurring of the characters. I was also confused at times regarding who was speaking or when or what the relations between the characters were. Suddenly the characters multiplied and we followed their inner voices. I got lost on the way a few times.

But still there was something so delightful in this book. It took me pages to feel that but now that I finished it, I can't help feeling this strange satisfaction. That's why I'm increasing my rating to 4 from 3.  Plus, it was beautifully written. Some feelings Woolf described hit me right in the heart. Kudos to her.

I also found Lily really queer so I immediately looked up a lesbian reading of the book. It was even gayer than I felt as the analysis included mlm relationships w/ Mr. Ramsay × William Bankes & even Carmichael & Andrew. I didn't quite catch those but Lily's dynamic with Mrs. Ramsay was certainly interesting. I mean it's Woolf so it's not exactly surprising but I love relating to the characters in such ways.
