Poignant and compulsively readable, Samantha Young's Black Tangled Heart is an emotional second-chance romance with a payoff that is worth all of its turmoil and angst. The connection that Jamie and Jane share is palpable, and the reason for their separation, tragic. It's a story about pain, revenge, forgiveness, and love. And, holy chemistry, Batman. Even in its darkest moments, there is always a sliver of hopefulness that two broken people just might make their way back to each other, obstacles notwithstanding.

Another amazing read, courtesy of Young, who is always an insta-purchase for me, regardless of the genre.

I love that I can always count on Sam Young to write a romance that consumes my mind, that breaks my heart and mends it at the same time, I love that the characters have stories that make them so realistic and deep. Jane and Jamie were amazing, the story was emotional and made me feel so many things. I can’t wait to buy a paperback copy and make sure it’s well loved!

Jane and Jamie's story dragged me into reading it non-stop all night long. This book is so deep, it manages different struggles, such as mental illness, sexuality, and the author does it in a great way. This made the story realistic, it showed how each character evolves. This story will reach deeply into your heart and mind, it's not just a story it's more than that and so I recommend this book and will be recommending it for a while. Definitely a must-read!

Jane even as a teenager has already been through a lot - being left at a police station as a baby and then going from one foster family to another. One day she meets Lorna - a girl moving next door, and then she also meets her brother Jamie and their older sister Skye. Soon after, they become Jane's family and Jane and Jamie start to fall in love. But when Jamie goes to college, something terrible happens that changes their lives forever (
Spoiler Skye accidentally overdoses several different medicines after being reminded of the fact that she was raped in the past and Jamie goes to prison for a crime he didn't commit
). Years later, Jamie want justice for what happened to his sister and he meets Jane again and Jane is also on his hit list. Jane decides to help him even though they both think they hate each other.

This book is beautiful, deeply emotional and heart-wrenching. I almost cried several times and was on edge through the whole second part of the book. I have to admit, I didn't expect the past part to be this long (pretty much first half of the book) but it was wonderful and made sense. I loved both Jane and Jamie, even though they didn't make the best decisions all the time and they hurt each other. It just showed that they're flawed and real. I absolutely love this book, one of the best books I've read this year.

I jumped for joy when I found out I was getting an arc of Samantha Young's latest story in the Play On series! I'm a huge fan of Samantha Young's work and I absolutely adore her Play On series. This series is interconnected by the theme of the arts industry rather than characters and so far we've been introduced to various aspects of acting, composing and singing. With Black Tangled Heart's latest release, we now can add writing, sketching, painting and hints of ballet. This series is perfect for anyone who loves the arts industry and contemporary romance!

One of the biggest things I love about this story is the depth Young goes into discussing the difference between justice and vengeance. The hero, Jamie, goes through a traumatic experience getting wrongly accused and punished, and this forces him to believe getting revenge is his only way to get past everything, including seeking vengeance on the heroine who he believes betrayed him. Jane, the heroine, forces Jamie to look beyond his immediate pain and focus on what could become of his future.

Jamie and Jane's relationship was beautiful to watch grow from acquaintances to tentative friends and later into lovers. Jane is wise beyond her years and brings some of that wisdom into her relationship with Jamie. Likewise, Jamie brings his ability to love wholly into Jane's life and shows her exactly what real love is meant to feel like; something Jane has been sorely missing from her life.

Black Tangled Heart was a beautiful story about love, revenge, redemption and second chances. The characters were complex and well developed, the romance was sweet and fierce, and the storyline intricate. I loved every minute of this book and can't wait to see what else Young released in future!

Disclaimer: Thank you to Samantha Young and Valentine PR for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

I think my mood and inability to pay attention to anything for a long period of time had an effect on me while reading this. Maybe just a case of wrong book at the wrong time. It just didn’t really do it for me. I wonder if I read it again in 6 month or a year if my thoughts would be different. Being a mood reader especially during these times can be no fun.

I voluntarily read an early copy.
