I have definitely outgrown this series. Maybe a collection of short stories from Edward's perspective of situations where Bella wasn't present would've been enough to hold my interest but this was just too much of the same old twilight with creepy Edward perspective.

This book is what Twilight should’ve been 15 years ago. The story told from a new point of view is much more engrossing. There‚Äôs so much more depth to the characters and so much more to the story now. I really enjoyed this book. It’s a much darker story than the original Twilight. Definitely made me team Edward after learning more about the history of the treaty between Edward’s and Jacob’s families. Overall, I thought it was a fantastic book, and I wish we could get the whole series from Edward’s point of view. Shoutout to Roger Hagadone for the beautiful cover. It definitely conveys the darker themes of the story.

Somehow she has made a book about an actual vampire completely piss boring. It's actually impressive I would say. I finished it with a struggle. It is forgettable, painfully slow and overly explained. Edward is creepy and weird with no redeeming features, Bella is nothing but a victim and none of the characters are interesting. 2 stars for the nostalgia and nothing else.

I love how we got to enjoy more of the inner workings of the Cullen family through Edward's lense, but this book made Edward out to be even more condescending and patronising than Twilight did.

not in the mood

when compared to the original series, Midnight Sun is more beautiful, more sad, more realistic—even though our narrator is the fantasy. we’re spared of Bella’s (can I say delulu?) thoughts and pulled into Edward’s mind, which reflects reality—from the truths left hidden to the ones deliberately or knowingly revealed, in the case of his family. we can feel his close connection to each of the Cullens and glimpse into their inner worlds. I often found his thoughts reflective of the series, as if he knows of the time that has passed since the publishing of Twilight.
after 14 years, I’m still looking for a story that gives me the same love and strength as this series, retold once more in this dazzling taste of what it was like to experience it for the first time. grateful for its help in coaxing my whirring mind into peace, whether ahead of a potentially sleepless night or on a plane, where I've been afflicted by flight anxiety these days(◞_◟)
