I'm hooked on this series and find myself clicking purchase on the next in the series as soon as I'm done the last word.
This one in particular, while well done, is a bit disappointing in that it skipped from the characters I'd come to know to characters that were so new I didn't care about them at first. What happened to the Onion Knight? I believe I must have glossed over that part of the story because it was told in summary.
To the author's credit, he does speak to this issue by saying the story just keeps growing. I'm ok with that. grin
However, what the author does repeatedly with his style of writing is gloss over 'what happened' to a character in another character's viewpoint and then later on, returns to the first in question to show us what really happened. I love this. Once i got used to it in the earlier novels, I found this an interesting device. I'm always on my toes.
great writing. The food descriptions always make me hungry.

Martin chose to split the characters and mostly focus on King’s Landing in this book which is understandable given how much is going on in the story and all the events he had to set up to but the result is that the key events I remember from the TV show that made up the story beats for me (yes I admit to be one of the GOT fans that first watched it on HBO before picking up the first ASOIAF book, some might say it does not make a real fan) don’t show up here and makes Feast of Crows an incredibly slow build up to the parts that I’m looking forward to, and a bloated reading experience. I guess I spoiled that for myself. But being in stupid narcissistic Cersei’s head half the time for hundreds of pages- that is NOT my fault. I realise now how the tv show showing us what ALL the characters are up to across the whole ASOIAF world was what saved me from that and the general monotony of court politics. A Feast of Crows was more politicking and bitching and scheming, less fantasy, magic, fighting and action, and no dragons. Unforgivable! But since all that will be saved for the next book, there should be much to look forward to.
Although I love this series of books I found this one harder to read than ones before. There isn't a great deal of action and I missed certain characters. Looking forward to the next one so I can catch up with Tyrion and Bran!
Not as good as the others-too many new characters and no updates on some of the old ones who are still alive.
Another great entry in the series--but one disappointment was that this volume didn't focus on my favorite characters (Jon Snow, Tyrion and Denaris) but Martin promises he'll get to them in the next one. Can't wait!
I'd heard this was one of the weaker entries in the series and I'm inclined to agree. There wasn't much page-turning action until towards the end and most of the most interesting character arcs are absent. Still immensely enjoyable and immersive though.
