3/5⭐️ - A very quick read! I was not familiar with the myth going in, but I looked it up afterwards and this was a really interesting take on it. I love Madeline Miller and how she brings these myths back to life in unique, fresh ways. I would definitly recommend reading up a little on the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea before reading this to give yourself a little background context. It’s such a short story there’s pretty much no world building, so I think it would be helpful to have the general gist of the characters before jumping in.

This was so beautifully written, I adored how lyrical it sounded. I also loved the differences in format for the dialogue, very interesting.

A great take on a classic myth, and one that felt so heart wrenching. Highly recommend

I enjoyed the swim

Madeline Miller’s writing is so easy to fall into. I have not had the pleasure of reading Circe or The Song of Achilles yet but I am so excited to now. I really enjoyed this short story and honestly wish it was a lot longer. Great story overall though and I did also enjoy the afterward by the author. It added a lot in my opinion and I would read anything she publishes in the future.
