This book was actually pretty difficult for me to rate.
On one hand, I really loved how the author combined greek mythology with the modern world. I felt that it stayed true to the theme/style of the mythos. The start was on the slow side but once it got going I really was hooked and wanted to see what would happen next.
But on the other hand, I really didn't care about any of the characters. Most of them felt very the same with little in the way of personality differences. It's really disappointing when you're reading a book and don't really have anyone you care about. Sure, I was rooting for them to prevail but it was more so because of the plot rather than wanting any particular ending for the characters.

I’m gonna call this like a 3.5-3.75. It wasn’t bad. It just seemed to kinda jump all over the place, and got a bit confusing at times. The premise was good, but I had a hard time following how it was executed. There was a lot of back and forth of who to trust, and who not to trust and it made it a bit confusing as well. That’s could just totally be me though. It wasn’t a bad book, just not a good book for me.
Giving it 3 because unlike Storygraph I cannot give it 3.75. And I don't think this is a four as of now.
I enjoyed the book. A lot of plot twists, you will see them coming esp if you have read the genre before. And this book definitely dips into the lake of tropes. I think the reason why it still stands apart from every other teen-superpowered-greek-myth-warrior story is because of certain conversations in the book between the prime antagonist and the protagonist. And the story was fast so if you are into greek mythology and new york plus need a weekend read, you could do a lot worse than the Lore.

I was really looking forward to this book but it just really didn’t interest me at all when I started reading it. It has taken me 3 days to read 98 pages. I’m usually 3/4 of the way through by now ://

This is like The Hunger Games meet Dan Brown novels set in Greek mythology in modern day. LOVE THIS SO MUCH! It has everything; mystery, action, romance and tragedy. I've always been a fan of Greek mythology and despite not knowing much, I love knowing and reading more about them. This concept of the gods being replaceable is very intriguing to me and how they have to survive in The Hunger Games for 8 days as punishment for their betrayal towards Zeus is so interesting.
The main character, Lore is a great character. She's flawed and well-developed. Every single character is interesting in here and I don't want to say more this early on as to avoid spoilers. Everyone has an interesting backstory with interesting development and that is a sign of characters to follow till the end. I love the relationship dynamics of each characters. However, I do feel the new Ares, Aristos Kadmou still feels like a textbook cartoon villain. But I don't mind when 99% of the characters have layers.
SPOILER ALERT
The author should have trigger warning for pedophilia and sexual harassment over here. There is gore but I don't mind it so much. It is when you have to read sexual threats from an older man to a 12 year old girl, that feels really .... sickening.
I love love Lore as a character, especially the parallels of her plight which was clearly based on various Greek heroes. The author clearly had done in depth research in this area. My eyes has been opened to a lot of different perspectives on the Medusa and Athena. Although, Ares is still a cliche villain in a lot of media, but it's nice to get fresh perspectives on the two female figures. I've always seen Medusa's "curse" as a punishment but never thought of it as strength. No man can hurt her, no man or god can harm her. I find that empowering. Well, it is a matter of perspective.
Athena... I hugely disappointed after her revelation. It is a really good plot twist but I guess I'm one of those people that has always looked at her one-sidedly that I forgot that there're always different sides. But most importantly, she came through at the end. And I respect Athena more now. She has always been my favorite in the Pantheon and now, she'll always will be.
The ending is extremely satisfying. After all the shit they've been through, they all deserve the happy ending.
