I didn’t like the hunger games… and this felt like the HG meets… New York Greece?

Perhaps I am just used to fantasy books that are duologies or trilogies so I was excited to get it all in one book. The premise of gods and Greek mythology is an interesting one but you do have to fill in some mythology holes to get the most of the story and that’s partially because it’s just one book. The love story was bland as was the character development. It found myself not really caring what happened to any of them except Miles. The end was lackluster and left questions - what happened to the gods
who sacrificed? Is the Agon over? Athena killed Lore’s whole family but knew she had to get Lore to give the shield willingly? Seems like a convenient twist that really didn’t make much sense.

4.5/5.

I can’t put into words my love for this book. The plot, the relationships, the lore, Lore, all of it. Greek mythology meets the Hunger Games in all of the best ways.

If any of this sounds even remotely interesting to you, I implore you to give this book a try.

.5 stars taken off solely for the pacing that at times felt a bit slow. But just like Athena - Alexandra Bracken’s plan and strategy were always in motion ;)

Honestly, I liked it a lot. I did like the characters a litte, but as other people said, they were kinda flat. No more storyline about them, just an accesory for the main character.

I also got lost in some parts. However, I think if you want a not-so-complicated greek mithology book, it’s actually pretty good. The plot is really cool, the friends to lovers was really cute too.

I give it four stars because of the thing about the characters and a five star book would usually make me cry. I still liked it a lot, i would recommend it anyways
