3.75 AVERAGE

This is my first book by this author and it won't be my last, this book had me hooked from the first page!!! so many twists and turns

An awesome modern take on the Greek gods and how greed and power leads to ruin and destruction

I tried to like this, but ugh. Too many heads being chopped off and blood. Not one likable character and it really could have been edited better. Also, who uses the word groused so much?

This took me ages to finish, and I am quite irritated about reading this.

I did not pay heed to the excessive hype around this book, and that should have been my first sign to avoid this.
The premise, oh, the premise is wonderful. Greek gods, vulnerable for a short time, as they are hunted by mortals, who can ascend as gods if they manage to kill the previous ones. There was no way, I thought to myself, can I be bored with a story like this, but I was proven wrong.
The writing is a mess, the pacing was choppy, there are too many chases, and action sequences, and despite the risk of sounding like a snob, the book felt like it was written for testosterone filled teens. The plot goes nowhere and everywhere at the same time, too many themes, too many events occur, and yet is so superficial. The characters were not thought out that well, and even the central hunt needed more dimension and details to it.
This was an absolute waste of time. The two stars are because the story had a few moments of intrigue and excitement, but that fizzles out soon enough.

DID NOT FINISH: 14%

Struggling to get into it, might try again later.

The characterisation in this book might as well not even exist. These people are like ghosts, like shadows. Their motivations are like wisps of fog in the wind, there if you squint, dispelled into nothing the next second. The flashbacks have barely any bearing on the characters now. If their past has no bearing on their present, why should I care for their future?

I struggled so much to get through this. The author had so much there to work with. It was like high quality clay in a beautiful studio and she just whacked it with a hammer and said yo here, read this.

The setting is underused. The magic system is basically non-existent. I don't even know why the Greek gods element exists, because it never adds a unique element to it. The characters are bleak roadmaps of something fully realised. I hate this book. I have no idea what the purpose even is. Why did she choose these elements? Why this plot? Why this book?

1.5 stars because I'm sick of reading about the human equivalent of white bread running around doing the bare minimum. I'm suppose to care about this? Really?
