Honestly, I read this in one sitting. I'm quite picky especially when it comes to romance books, it's just not my preferred genre, but I thought this was so sweet. While it was definitely feelgood, fun and light, I like how the FMC had nuance and the whole thing game me Lorelai (Gilmore Girls)-vibes. The only thing I will say is that it was honestly too short! It takes place over one weekend (both past and present), which I liked but I feel like there was so much more to unpack around all if the characters that we didn't have time to go into, they were all interesting and I would have liked to get to know them better.

Also for a book about a smut-writer, I was taken aback the lack of it (which I never thought I'd say because I do not fancy myself much of a smut-reader). I guess that in itself is quite original. Regardless, it was a light and fun read and I had a good time!

Penny is coming back home to her parents' house to have Thanksgiving with them and her twin sister.  Every time the family is together, there always seems to be some drama and this Thanksgiving is no different.  On the way from the airport, Penny ends up in a ride share with her ex-husband, who is also going home (across the street from her parent's house) and things get dramatic from there.

I enjoyed the book and I wanted to see where everything was going to go and the author kept my interest.  It wasn't the best romcom that I've ever read, but there were some funny scenes in the novel.  Nana Rosie was my favorite character.  There actually isn't that much romance in the book (there are no open door scenes) and it felt more like a family drama, but not so literary.

Cute and funny! A fun and easy beach or light read. Really enjoyed it!

Meh. Bants as a defence mechanism as a personality isn’t going to be something I love. It felt shallow and just… not that interesting? Like it was leaning heavily on the offbeat but loveable grandma trope, and the my-parents-never-understood-me premise. Also, your Dad just had a heart attack, maybe don’t give him your smutty softporn romance to read? It felt like a lot of blah, all the way through.

this was so wholesome, I literally lived every page. I kept finding myself grinning & actually laughing out loud, not just the lol you send to lighten up a text but actual real life “ha ha”s
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book because I usually don’t love a self destructive character but she was written so well I was rooting for her to find a place for herself in the world.

everything else was great too— the ex husband, the fake dating, family bonds, jealousy… so well executed for a cozy romance

I don't normally read romance, but I decided to give this one a shot. And oh my gosh, what a delightfully funny, trope-y, and swoony book this is.

Penelope is the black sheep of her family. She flunked out of Princeton, writes smut for a living, and got divorced only a year after getting married. Her family just cannot seem to understand her. But for the first time in a long time, she returns home for Thanksgiving to ask her family for a business loan...and ends up getting stuck in the same rideshare as her ex-husband...and pretends her father's employee is her new hot boyfriend...and outs her grandmother as a pothead, to name a few horrific non-manure-related moments in this laugh out loud book (and yes, there is a manure-related moment).

This was delightful and funny and fantastic in all the right ways. Of course, as with many romances, there's a happy ending and plenty of character growth. The kids are alright, here.
