This was a fun, heartwarming, and entertaining read. I found myself laughing in several parts. The Thanksgiving scene in present day was my favorite. The “fake” boyfriend had me chuckling. The characters were very enjoyable.

Hilarious & heartwarming

A laugh out loud debut that is both wickedly funny and heartwarming.

Penelope has never felt that she fit in with the rest of her family and has avoided spending holidays with them for many years. A chance to start a new business may require asking them for some help. She arranges a car from the airport only to find she is sharing it with her ex-husband, who was also the boy next door. After a series of mishaps, they arrive at Penelope’s house where she is greeted by her grandmother, parents and twin sister Phoebe. There is also a handsome young man who works for her father who will be spending the holiday with them.

Penelope has an incredibly sharp wit which she uses whenever things get tense or uncomfortable. During the visit, she learns to make peace with her ex-husband, twin sister and father. Along the way, she learns some important information about herself and the choices she has made.

A wonderful cast of characters who are well developed, a nicely paced plot and enough humor and empathy to make this an engaging and satisfying read. I am already looking forward to this author’s next novel.

The main character’s arc made her love able cause I didn’t love her the whole time. Funny and a sneaky rom-com.

This one surprised me. I don’t remember how it ended up on my TBR but I’m glad it did. It was on Kindle Unlimited and I need to get through those so I don’t waste the $11.99 a month. This was funny, quick to read, and heartwarming. Penelope is the odd man out in her well to do family and she has decided to come home for Thanksgiving for the first time in 10 years. On the way home she runs into her ex husband who has been her neighbor and in her life since childhood. But this doesn’t necessarily take the direction you think it will. I feel like this had a unique story to tell.

This book had me laughing out loud so many times. Penny’s humor was so on point with her sarcasm. Also, I found her to be quite relatable in some situations that she found herself in. I enjoyed the family dynamic of the story. This was such an unexpected find and happy I read it! If you want to have an easy read that makes you laugh and understand various emotions please read this.

This was a decent fluffy filler book to entertain me. I laughed out loud at parts, but cringed a few too many times for my comfort level. At times it felt a bit forced and predictable. Not bad, just not my fave.
