Warning: don’t miss out on the dozens of color photographs that accompany the text. I almost bought this on Kindle and I’m glad I waited for it to come in at the library. It’s fascinating and I read it quickly, but in the interest of telling lots of stories, Charney seemed to cut a few of the best ones short. (I liked that he mentioned Ken Perenyi, a forger who revealed his life story in Caveat Emptor. I reviewed it two years ago.) If you want a quick summary of the book, Fresh Air has a fun interview with Charney.

A fantastic read and great introduction to the world of art forgery and fraud. Scholarly but readable, essentially it is just an overview and introduction to the subject but I can't think of a better place to start than with this work.

3 Stars - I liked it! Not one of my all time faves or on my 'ooohhh people have to read this' list. But, I would recommend if someone was looking for something similar.
This book was a collection of examples of art that has been forged and the forgeries that slipped through the cracks. While there was no over arching narrative to the stories and examples that made it at times a bit slow the author wrote in language that was accessible meaning that a knowledge in art history was not required. If someone needs a book that collects some of the biggest cases in one place than this is the book for them!

A very general overview of the litrature already written on the subject, nothing much original here.
