I really enjoyed this book for a light but still interesting read with how it explored the theme of family and the ways one’s upbringing shapes them. I consider this book to be a “light” read due to its sometimes silly nature (made me lol a lot), while still creating discourse surrounding family dynamics and how they can change one’s entire outlook on their life (especially a family that isn’t your own). Loved !

I loved this book! A coming of age book where a girl finds comfort and joy in music (and singing) is just so relatable. I loved all the characters and how Mary Jane tried to blend her orderly, traditional (strict) upbringing with the love-filled, progressive home she became a part of for the summer. She blossomed and felt supported and encouraged. She felt needed and capable. The relationship between Izzy and Mary Jane was the sweetest.

This book reminded me (a little) of Willliam in Almost Famous, who was also from a strict home/similar 70s timeframe, but this was more personal and intimate.

What a fun read! Something about this book makes me think Daisy Jones and the Six meets Almost Famous. Highly recommend.

I truly had so many thoughts on this book. For the first half, I truly loved it. I loved the characters and the story, and I really felt some nostalgia in the way that her summer is written. However, I really didn’t enjoy the way her mother was perceived as a villain, although you could see the many layers of depth to her. I found some strange issues with Sheba and Jimmy. Why were they so attracted to a young girl? I truly believed this was going to turn into a kidnapping of a child. And the end? One chapter her mom is furious with her and think she in Satan reincarnated. The next?? She’s sitting enjoying a meal with the whole family! Still fun, and enjoyed my time, but this book definitely felt so rushed at the end
