So, obviously, I inhaled this one like I did the others, and this may be the unpopular opinion, but this was my least favorite book of the trilogy. It got a little, "And who is that again?" for me, was a bit cheesy and predictable in parts, and just didn't flow as well as the first two.

That being said, I think Darrow was the most fleshed-out he had ever been in the whole series! Unfortunately, maybe because so much time was spent actually (finally) developing him, there was less time spent on the other (and, in my case,) more beloved characters.

Final bullet points:

- Sevro is the real star of this series; if he is not your favorite, what is wrong with you?

- There wasn't nearly enough Jackal in this (though when there was, he was as amazing as always). Seriously, what a great, scary, abhorrent villain. (I adored him!) I'm excited for P.B.'s villains in future books!

- Sefi and the Valkyries were a fantastic addition. I mean, the cast was already too expansive (arguably; I may just be lazy and/or forgetful since I read [b:Golden Son|25263600|The Golden Son|Shilpi Somaya Gowda|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1435588980s/25263600.jpg|44691737] months ago), but I loved these ladies.

Very solid book! Although Darrow vs the golds seems to be a major conflict. I think the biggest conflict is Darrow vs himself. He has to learn to not only become what he was in Golden Son, but better. Darrow learns to learns to balance humility and self confidence. We also see that although dueling skills are not what they once were, he can outsmart his opponents. I think this is representative of Darrow finally transitioning from doing everything himself to trusting those closest to him
