I enjoyed this next book in the Elm Creek Quilts series. It's a historical novel about the family Elm Creek Quilts' founder, Sylvia Compson. Young newly weds Elizabeth and Henry travel to California after they've purchased their own ranch. However when they get there they find they have been swindled. I enjoyed the 1920's prohibition era setting, and learning more about the characters.

Totally historical in this one.

Elizabeth had a lot of growing up to do, and I appreciated her optimism.

Borrowed on Hoopla through JCPL.

New characters to fall in love with. This one was a little harder to enjoy, because Elizabeth gave up just a little too much.

The quilter's homecoming by Jennifer Chiaverini
1920's newlywed Henry and Elizabeth Nelson leave PA for CA where they had purchased land to work. When they realize they've been swindled they are forced to work on the land.
The story starts out with their meeting when Elizabeth's family was at Elm Creek, the family house during the summer and Henry's family lived in the farm next door.
All the years of writing letters to one another-she does go out in the city with other men and she really wants Henry to propose to her.
Love all the talk of the quilt squares and what the colors and block names mean.
Book also follows others life's as they cross Henry and Elizabeth. Safari world sounds like an oasis in the desert but she learns the truth as she attempts to make money.
Loved the travel involved and how they see the new areas of the US through their eyes. Hated to hear of the scheme but she finds work and is not afraid to work at all.
Love the orchard and how the fruit is processed. She is able to trade from her wedding gifts for things they needed right away.
So much heartache and struggles to make a living at this time of the century but they persevere and drudge onward.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Not one of my favorite of the Elm Creek Quilt series. I love listening to this series and was looking forward to this one. It just didn't get to me for some reason. Don't think it's because it takes place in the past, as I've listened to a few others from the series that occur in the past and they were wonderful.
QUILTER'S HOMECOMING is the story of Elizabeth and Henry and their move to California from Pennsylvania to take ownership of a ranch. And it goes from there that not all goes as planned. Bad happens and then good.

Charming story - not just for quilt lovers but very predictable.
