This was great. It kept me hooked from start to finish. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the Harry Hoke series in order though. I think the independent plotlines were done well but it was lacking a bit in terms of connectivity. I suppose it was meant to be a false lead but I like it better when everything comes together at the end. I did not expect a cliffhanger at the end though, apart from which it did have a smooth ending. This was also a little bit more gory than the thrillers I usually read, I'm not complaining though. Overall, a great thriller.
the set up for the next book took more pages than the amount for the case

Graphic: Murder
J'ai beaucoup aimé l'intrigue même si j'avais le bon suspect en tête assez tôt dans le livre. J'ai enlevé une étoile pour l'histoire inachevée de deux personnages en particukier dont j'aurais bien aimé connaitre le dénouement.
Nesbo shows once again that he is not afraid to play with his readers like a cat with a roach. Nor is he squeamish about killing his darlings, his deft ability to resurrect them notwithstanding. The plot here is winding and twisted, and there are a few loose ends that dangle in ways that suggest the next installment, but these annoying tendencies are canceled out by the way he propels the story forward. Police is a thriller, but at times it threatens to cross the line into horror. Even so, or perhaps because so, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Harry Hole hit the small screen one of these days. I can't imagine who could play Harry though...
This is my first read from this author and not being acquainted with the characters of the previous books in the series might have been a miscue on my part. I didn't have a problem with the plot and thought the book was well paced, what I did have a problem with was as the intensity of the scene elevated, the story cut away and left the reader hanging. Especially the final confrontation, the play by play would have been cringe worthy if well written.

Another stellar entry is the ongoing saga of Harry Hole. Less of Harry than in a typical Nesbo thriller. More of other characters like Katrine and Beate --which was fine by me. Harry can be pretty overwhelming. I liked him in smaller doses. Intriguing plot. Leaves us hanging with a someone still on the loose....can't wait for the follow-up!
