The first 300 pages was a snooze fest but I liked how the end came together.

They killed the king in kind of a dumb way but of course they were going to win! They couldn’t have failed that mission.

I liked Eragons growth and I like all his friends and I like all the new dragons. I’m debating on reading more about this story with the to newer books that have come/are coming out of this series.

Strong in parts and weak in parts but not bad overall.

Wow, what can I say? It was not at good as the others, and about 1/2 the time I kept telling myself that I don't care about the characters!!! I did in the first 3... Not sure what the difference was.

DID NOT FINISH: 47%

As this series progressed, each book was more complex and long-winded than the last. At that age, I honestly didn't really have the brain capacity to understand the plot anymore by the time the series got to this book.

I read it in bits every night before bed, but I only got about halfway through before I inevitably set it down one day and just never picked it up again.

That certainly didn't stop me from raving about how much I loved it at the time, though, which is ironic considering I couldn't tell you a single detail of what happened in this book, entirely because I didn't understand any of it.

Finally it's all over. 3.5 stars max. Best book of the 4, but it still took way too long, especially the unoriginal ending. Not going to miss this series at all...

Goodbye, Alaga...whatever.

Disappointed!!!

Great series! A very good ending. As usual, Paolini is very descriptive, almost too much so, but the images he creates are very vivid and realistic. A satisfying ending. I feel like I ended a long term relationship with this series. I'm sad that it's over, but it was good while it lasted.

I'm really glad I got around to reading this. I will admit I snorted aloud at
Spoiler"The werecats are coming!" and when Saphira spent the last 20 pages getting laid
. But other than that it respectably wrapped up most of the loose ends I cared about. I'm a little unsatisfied with
SpoilerMurtagh just pissing off at the end
, but that's admittedly the only course of action that would have made sense. It does all feel a little like sequel bait:
Spoilerwe're gonna go explore the entire planet's habitable latitudes, find somewhere to raise 250 dragons and train 20 riders, and we might find lots of dangerous creatures or other sentient races that as a rule we won't get along with
......... after the break.
adventurous hopeful inspiring medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

As with the other entries in this series, I find myself underwhelmed by Inheritance. Not only does the book heavily lean on conventions and tropes that are so worn out they could be a character in Stephen King's The Long Walk, but the book is full of pulled punches.

Specifically, I'm thinking about plot points (Arya/Eragon's relationship, Galbatorix's fate, Murtagh's loyalty, and the ending) which are threaded throughout the entire quadrilogy and ultimately fall flat in this book.

That's my main gripe with this entry. It fails to rise to its own lofty ambitions, and it ultimately peters out rather than ending with a bang.
