I wanted to love this book more than I did. I will say, right off, I've been seeing many people say this remind them of her JD Robb Pen name. As someone who has read up to book 60, including all the novella's, I respectfully disagree. The In Death series is not comparable to this one standalone.

I struggled with this book because of the slow pacing. Most of Nora's books are intricate and really go into the nuances of the topic you are reading about. But for this one, all we did was focus on Sloan and her recovery, her new job and then eventually the crime. Just not in a way that I found as interesting as I wanted to. The actual romance in this book took forever to get started and I was wondering if there was even going to be one at a certain point. Maybe coming off my last Nora read (Come Sundown) made it hard to love this as much as I wanted to? I'm not sure.
