Book #74 read in 2025
Nora Roberts does romantic suspense so well. Sloan is on leave after being shot in a convenience store robbery, but her investigative nature won't let her rest. When a woman goes missing, Sloan finds out she's not the first and starts looking into all the disappearances. Noah is new to town and the perfect romantic interest for Sloan. As readers, we get a behind-the-scenes look into the reasons behind the disappearances and who is responsible. That lends suspense to the story as Sloan gets closer to uncovering the reason for the kidnappings.
Note about the narration: January LaVoy is one of the best narrators in the business and this was no exception.

It was okay. Pacing has been a problem for me with Roberts' latest few books including this one. The beginning did drag with set up. The ending felt rushed. The middle felt slow. I don't know. Some of her other books have felt like two or three books in one. I've noticed that she goes more in depth with certain details/backgrounds. This book did not feel like two or three combined (win!), but even for being more contained and focused, I would have preferred more focus on the main characters relationship, and it would have been nice to have more of Nash's backstory not just Sloan's. I think Roberts' focus has changed over the years (totally understandable) and moved from the romance part of the romantic suspense genre. I think I just miss the good ol' days. Ultimately, this book was fine.

Perfection. Just what I expect from Nora Roberts. Slow burn, Hallmark type story with just enough mystery and action thrown in at the end.
