This one just felt overly sentimental, even for an NR.
I really enjoyed the story. My only complaint was the "backstory" took several chapters (in a sense the first 3rd of the book), but the wrap up was maybe 2 chapters. I don't mind the longer story build, but the abrupt ending was a little bit if a let down.

My rating system, mostly based on "Would I recommend?" / "Would I talk about it?":
1๐ I did or should have DNF'd it. *If* I talk about it, it will be to vehemently not recommend.
2๐ It was not to my preference, and may have had other things wrong, but not complete garbage. Probably won't talk about it unless asked and will probably tell mostly what I dislike, more than anything else.
3๐ Completely neutral. I didn't love it, didn't hate it. I won't recommend or bring up on my own, but if someone asks, I would talk about it some, giving both sides of the opinion. Wasn't good enough to reread; I wouldn't necessarily want it on my bookshelf
4๐ I liked it. It's not my absolute favorite, but I would recommend or talk about it. Would read again (potentially a few times) I might buy it for myself and wouldn't be mad if someone bought it for me.
5๐ I loved it! I will randomly mention / recommend it, even without provocation. I will read again (and again, infinitely), would love my own physical copy.

After being shot in the line of duty, Natural Resources Police officer Sloan Cooper has returned to her family in her hometown of Heron's Rest, Maryland to heal and get her feet back under her. Also getting a fresh start in Heron's Rest are Nash and Theo Littlefield, brothers who want to escape their high-born family and stressful careers to do some work with their hands and start a home repair company. Handy when Sloan buys the house next door.
While Sloan is recuperating, she hears about the unexplained disappearance of a woman a few towns away. The case continues to niggle at her until she returns to work and comes across a couple of other cases with disappearances under the same circumstances. When she finally figures out the connection between the victims, she realizes that she could also be in the crosshairs.
This is another stellar Nora Roberts romantic suspense standalone. This one is actually a bit lighter on the romance, as Sloan and Nash don't even meet face to face until about 40% of the way through the book. But this book showcases the things Nora writes best: strong female characters, tight loving families, devious killers, and a charming setting.

I loved this - the audio narration is superb! Wonderful character development also - I was really invested in them!
Itโs been years since Iโve read a Nora Roberts book, but I was in the mood for a romantic thriller and I know she delivers on that pretty well. The story was solid with a great cast of characters, but I canโt help but feel that something was missing, an integral thing that made me invested in everyone and their stories. I felt like I was barely scratching the surface. This isnโt the Nora Roberts writing I remember from my youth.
Overall, I enjoyed the plot, but the way it was executed just wasnโt working for me.
I didn't enjoy this book as much as I normally do those by Nora Roberts. Not sure why.

Good story. Strong female characters. Predictable love story but good serial murder mystery.
