This is possibly the most clumsiest written Nora I've ever read (& I've read everything from Irish Thoroughbred onwards). The dialogue is used multiple times to describe the surroundings (moody grey walls, wainscoting etc) and was exceptionally boring, especially between the FMC and MMC. The bad characters were the most understandable, which is odd.

Nora Roberts is a master of writing grown up fairytales, as proven again by her newest novel, Hidden Nature.. Main characters you love, villains that sicken you. And that’s what makes Roberts’ novels believable - the personality quirks that distinguish character, the daily necessities and irritations that impact us all. Sloane Cooper grew up in a loving family in a scenic vacation get away. She’s smart and capable which does nothing to prevent her getting shot in the opening scene. Life changing events lead to life changes, including new relationships. But for Sloane that life changing moment also makes her a perfect target for fanatic serial killers.
