Disappointingly little character development for Murtagh, in my opinion.
It annoys me that both Murtagh and Thorn know that Nal Gorgoth is a dangerous place, and yet Murtagh insists on staying and thus puts Thorn in danger (also going into a cave, basically Thorn’s only weakness). It’s convenient for the story, but it’s so disrespectful to Thorn. Why can’t Murtagh just swallow his pride and ask others for help?

The writing style is engaging and has a good drive, for the most part. But, the pacing is weird: the first half feels quick, quest-based and the second half is too long, feels slow.

I was really excited to return to the world of Alagaësia and this blew me away. Any expectations I had were just blown out of the water.

I loved the totally refreshing perspective as Murtagh and Eragon are both so different.

And then we have the cult and the witch herself. By far exceeded my expectations of the enemy set up for the continuation of the Inheritance Cycle.

Can't wait to see what's next.

This is a strong addition to Paolini‘s books. I found it compelling, and would never describe it as predictable. Paolini‘s writing continues to struggle with when provide more detail, and when to provide less, lending our understanding of the setting to be limited at times and hampering the pace. Overall, however, I quite enjoyed the book, especially the unpredictability.

This book fried my brain a little because it was so, so good. I missed the world and I missed Murtagh. Paolini writes his perspective so well, his mix of begrudging hope and pessimism really works in a way that I think other authors would struggle with. I would argue that this isn’t YA but that’s just me; this book is very gory, and definitely a step up from Eragon’s story. I really loved to have a more adult perspective on the things that happened in the original series, now that Murtagh is able to process them.
And this was also just a great adventure! The world this story is set in is just so fascinating, and Paolini is great at giving you chances to explore certain niches of the world in ways that aren’t exposition dumps or dragging to the plot. Just fantastic

I fell in love with Alagaesia once more in this new addition to the Eragon series. My only complaint is that it dragged on sometimes, but overall was a wonderful read.

The visions and the antagonist of the book really creeped me out. It was also a little slow in the beginning and somewhat drug on like the previous books.

If you enjoyed the Inheritance series, this book feels like reuniting with an old friend.
