Considering the fact that I’ve been reading this since January… it is LONG (ok yeah I was also in a reading slump, but still). I didn’t hate it, but Murtagh makes so many stupid decisions and so little happens until the last 15% of the book. Bonus points for the feel-good nostalgia I get from returning to this world though.

After a 12 year break, it was wonderful to return to the world of Alagaesia. It managed to retain the magic and feel of the main series whilst also offering new places, fears and foes.

The novel was quite bloated in size as expected but really picked up in pace after the 50% mark.

Let’s hope it doesn’t take another 12 years for the big ‘Book V’ to come out!

First section was a little slow, but covered some basics from the Inheritance series. Felt some parts were really dragged out.

Overall, it was an entertaining story and was great to be back in the land of Alagasia.

I also appreciated the mental health struggles Murtagh and Thorn wrestle with through out the story. It was great to see this representation in male characters.

decent. symbolism was a bit heavy-handed, plot felt railroaded at times. I still enjoy the worldbuilding, though.
