This book brought up quite a lot of ouchie family feelings- which caused way more emotions than I expected. I really enjoyed the family friend, the history, and the atmosphere of this book but again this series and its authors like to jump locations without explaining. If it’s confusing for adult me I imagine middle grade readers would be quite frustrated by that.

It’s also odd how Nellie continues to change race & accent in every single audiobook… why was that not stabilized? I love her character but that’s super weird

These books are starting to run together. New country, same old near-misses with crazy relatives, why-can't-we-figure-this-clue-out and should-we-trust-them questions. I'll finish the series...but it's going slowly.

Not as imaginative as the others, but was still a fun read. Got a refresher on Egyptian history and mythology.

A very nice focus on Egyptian history and powerful female figures. Could make an archaeologist a bit twitchy, since a recurring issue is damage to artifacts. But overall, you should be pretty interested in this book. While, of course, the Cahill history is falsified, and the sites arennot entirely accurate, Watson does a good job researching the actual people involved, so that should be a good starting point for research, if your child gets interested.

These books are a bit of fluff, not being too serious, but the main appeal is how they interest children in reading, and can possibly lead to their own research. Just let them keep going until they find something that fixes their attention.
