I don’t think I can give a Zoey Draven book anything less than 4 stars. I swear, her world building and the emotional wreckage she leaves behind is amazing. This may not be my favorite story but it’s beautiful. A true second chance romance between Maeva and Kiran. Maeva, a human, was abandoned as a baby in the woods and raised by the Dakkari people. She became best friends as kids with Kiran and eventually fell in love with him. He rejects her and leaves her broken hearted. He then comes back and things are now tense. Goodness, the tension and angst was top-tier. Maeva became trained as a healer and she is bad ass at it. I love that for her. Kiran is now a leader, a horde king, and he is now groveling. I love that for her too. There is a difficult birth scene which might be triggering but as a mom I love seeing the power of women in various forms. I removed a star due to a scene with Kiran where I felt consent was a bit vague. These alien men have been great about consent and boundaries in this series but I didn’t like one part. However, this series and the subplot regarding their planet going through some weird thing and this goddess and her powers is good fantasy/sci-fi fun.
as a self-proclaimed hater of second chance romances ... this slapped.
THIS WAS SO ANGSTY AND DELICIOUS in all the right ways a second chance romance should be. i want flashback POVs, i want to know each and every individual hurt, i want there to be so much groveling it takes up chapters. and this delivered. though it could have used a smiiiiiidge more groveling. because the limit does not exist.
our FMC, a human raised in a dakkari settlement, crosses paths with the love of her life - her childhood bestie who she harbored a fervent, deep, and unrequited love for for years until he broke her heart and walked away without looking back.
years pass, and she's forced to accept the job of healer in his horde. forced proximity deliciousness ensues.
this was so, so sweet, and packed a hell of an emotional punch for anybody who's ever felt the sting of rejection and unrequited love.
at this point, i want anything zoey draven writes injected directly into my veins the minute it releases.

There were a lot of good and poignant moments in this book. I think it built up on the secondary story a bit more which will lead well into the next book. I loved seeing the flashbacks of Kiran and Maeva, they were so cute! I think the most disappointing part of this book was how long it took for them to start to progress in their relationship. In some ways it made sense......but it just felt a little slow. I wish that more had happened in the story. I felt like it need just a little bit more of a centering point. It didn't build up to anything besides the relationship aspect, which was good, but I think the story would have been enriched if there was a bit more. I still really enjoyed the book but I do feel a little disappointed.

I forgot how much I love this series! I might reread the previous books before I continue so that I can remember every details. Definitely want to check out more Zoey Draven books.
This is my favorite book of the series. I actually got second hand embarrassment a couple times which is saying something, I felt the emotions from the characters so strongly. I loved their chemistry and the ups and downs throughout the whole book. I wish I could read this one again for the first time!

Great addition to the series!
I loved this story! Friends to lovers aren't my usual but this was perfect! I felt for Maeva - I felt her heartbreak and her determination to move on and find a purpose.
