Book 4 in the series. An orphaned human, raised by the Dakkar, is best friends with the prince of her horde throughout her childhood. She is madly in love with him her whole life but when they are of age he scorns her and leaves to start his trial. 9 years later he comes back wanting her to be his horde’s healer.
I read the first 3 of this series but stopped here because second chance romances make me so angsty and I couldn’t deal right then. Came back to this on Audio and it was great!
I just love Zoey’s writing so much and this world.
This had a good amount of angst without damaging me. The pacing of their reconnection was very good and I was pleased that ZD answered every “why?!?” question I had. Maeve was a great fmc to root for and Kiran was very determined. I don’t think I would call all grovel. I just liked that he was honest with her. She would ask him why and he would explain himself! Open communication, what is that? We rode the line here discussing his past conquests, something I don’t like to hear about in my romance books. And I wouldn’t consider this her steamiest. However, I devoured this book. Anyway, Lia Langola kicked ass on this audio and I think I might finish this series that way now.

This author's writing gets better and better with each book. It's hard to believe this series is self-published; it's that good. It's better than quite a few traditionally published books. The plot is tight. The balance between interiority, dialogue, and action is excellent. The characters are compelling and believable. And in a crowded genre, the story and characters feel unique. Overall just well done. A quick, light read.

It was nice to learn about the outposts and saruk. The dynamics the FMC had with her family and the horde was interesting too.
I adore this series. Literally, every book is the same *basic* premise, but the little razzle dazzle gets me every time. This starts as the classic unrequited love, but that torch always burns type of storyline. I adored the development of the story and the series that happened in this book. We have a badass female lead who is a healer and leans on her experience (which is *chef kiss*) but we also have a loveable hoard king who is willing to prove his worth and love. Adorable, easy to read, and an amazing story.

I enjoy this author’s work. I love the world building and the ongoing mystery about the planet. This author is very creative and even has a convincing language although the “vok” substitute for “f*ck” cracks me up for some reason.
Anyway, I liked the angst in this one, but it could’ve been more heart wrenching. It’s got unrequited love and rejected mate, which are tropes I adore. I only wish aspects of the H’s reasoning for the separation and sudden change of heart would’ve been fleshed out more. I look forward to more books in this series coming out.
