This book is exactly what I expected when I decided to read a novel written by Bob Mortimer. On the basis of reading this one, I have decided I will be reading the second book.

I recommend checking content warnings before reading/listening to this book. While Bob Mortimer is known for his comedy, which is very much present throughout the book, controlling relationships are featured heavily in this book. 

My main issue with the novel is the way Gary is written. He’s a 30 something in the 2020s but has absolutely no understanding of how technology works. If the story was set earlier (say the 90s or early 00s) the character would have been more believable. 

While I enjoyed learning about the inner thoughts of Gary (particularly how a squirrel was the vehicle of his conscience) some of it was unnecessary and distracted from the story-telling.

Fun read with some actual mystery and stakes. I love books that bring me back to London and have that British wit, add a murder mystery and you've got yourself a page-turner.

This is a terrible book with terrible dialogue. Imagine the class clown when you were 14 who would do all sorts of disgusting things for attention and say random things and make the same joke over and over and misuse words. Now imagine they are trying to impress you. This book should never have been published.
