I was pleasantly surprised with this one! I'm not really a historical romance girlie, but the story was interesting, the romance set up was fun, and the back and forth between all the Bridgerton siblings was entertaining.

I enjoyed watching Daphne and Simon's banter, their slow burn chemistry, and their subsequent happily ever after. There was one very crucial scene that I thought was unnecessary and completely inappropriate (see spoilers), and without that scene, the book would have been even stronger.

I loved Daphne's connection with each of her siblings, and it was interesting watching them all get so invested in her courting prospects. Definitely had me hooked enough to continue the series!

She raped her husband...like...why was that even a thing? He clearly was drunk and not in his right mind, he'd told you numerous times that he didn't want kids, and so you decide to literally force yourself on him in order to try and get pregnant? And then have the audacity to think to yourself that you totes didn't do that, he wanted it? No, Daphne. No.

When I saw that there had been a new TV series made, called the Bridgertons, I was racking my brains trying to remember where I knew that name from.
Somewhere along the line, I realized it was a Julia Quinn series- one I had read years before, and enjoyed back then too.
So I wasn’t too unhappy with the idea of a re-read before deciding if I want to watch the show.

Julia Quinn has always been one of my favourite regency romance authors, and this book shows why.

This is the first book in the series, and I’m fairly certain it’s linked with numerous other series too.
When Daphne Bridgerton is introduced to her brother’s friend the Duke of Hastings, she wasn’t expecting him to ask her to help him. Wanting to escape the matchmaking mamas, he asks her to pretend he is courting her.
The matchmaking mamas will look elsewhere, the gentlemen will find her much more interesting, is his rationale.
Simon has long been a devout bachelor, and he has no intention of changing that status, no matter how he feels about Daphne!

The story of Daphne Bridgerton and her Duke, Simon Basset, is at times laugh out loud funny, and at other times the kind of book where you want to smack the hero/ine.
Any way you look at it, it’s an engrossing storyline- and the Lady Whistledown mystery is sure to make you wonder too!

An enjoyable trip through time, for regency and historical romance fans. Fans of the show should read it too

The writing made me cringe on several accounts. Full of cliches, lacked creativity. This whole book was practically dialogue, there was no imagery. Didn’t even feel like a regency novel. It’s very rare that I prefer a TV adaption over the books.

Good smut.
