Not amazingly well written, but a good story that keeps your attention. Good easy beach read :)
Because I was absolutely smitten with the new Netflix series I thought I would give the books a go.
It was the first book I downloaded on my newly purchased e-reader.
Now onto my opninion. I feel like I was immediately captivated in the universe. Mostly in the beginning noting all the differences with the series. Which are quite a few.
It is quite the romance. I don’t understand all the negative reviews. Spoilers ahead. I get why everybody is like “Why must a rape scene be included?”. I agree to a certain point. It’s heavy non consensual sex that we definitely should condemn. But it does fit the story in a realistic way in my opinion. It’s angry, there’s hate. And also she’s too young to actually understand the heaviness of it all.
I believe it also fits the time period.
So do I believe the rape scene makes it a bad book? No.
Is this book certainly not for everyone?

It’s not because you don’t like the characters personality that it’s a bad book?
Anyway am excited to explore the universe further.
I do have no doubt that some of the other books in the series will be better.

Well, I picked this book up because I kept getting ads for the Netflix show and I thought "Well, let me read the book first." Big mistake. I can't remember the last time a book made me so angry. So yes, I didn't finish this novel, or rather, I refuse to finish it. This is not a romance, this is a book down-playing rape and perpetuating the idea a toxic relationship is actually romantic.
After watching the show, I don't know what i expected. The book has fewer characters and less drama overall. I'm still going to read the whole series, but I prefer the chemistry in the show.
