I can't believe I put off reading this book for so long. Usually TJR's books make me cry because the endings are bittersweet but Malibu Rising's ending was sweet so I was happy. I am glad that Nina finally found her voice. She truly has the oldest, first born daughter syndrome where she feels responsible for taking care of everyone but never takes care of herself. I love how TJR has basically made a cinematic universe of her own where the people seem so real because they have real life problems and flaws, that I find myself googling these people hoping to find their wikipedia.

The format of the book is written in two parts. Part 1 goes back and forth for the day of the Malibu Summer Party and the past to how the Riva family became the Riva family, showcasing the life of Mick Riva and how Mick Riva became Mick Riva. Part 2 just shows the night of the party and everything that happens...it's very chaotic but in true Hollywood fashion I did not expect anything less. The book was a fast read and essentially really fun. No thoughts just vibes.

4.5 ⭐️ (most likely to go up). the riva’s will always have a special place in my heart! props to TJR for being able to convey such a realistic story. she was able to create these characters and show that what ever happens in life — whether it be mistakes, heartbreak, your own upbringing —can still transcend and echo into your future or through the generations to come.
