When you read a book in 3 days while working full-time, it has to be rated 5 stars. Really liked these characters and the story that was their lives. Yeah, there were some superfluous characters but it didn’t detract from the book.

A book with so much water on its front cover, yet its first sentence presents a completely different element. Taylor Jenkins Reid, you are a genius.
Unlike the other TJR books I've read so far (TSHOEH and DJATS), Malibu Rising did not leave me wanting to know what would happen next. The world-building and family dynamics were incredibly well written, but the party itself was unexpectedly chaotic, much like the way it was described. Some side characters had unnecessary backstories, which, while serving to immerse you in a house party full of unfamiliar faces, could leave you confused or forgetful about them. However, the Riva siblings each had distinct characteristics, making a lasting impact on the story. Mick Riva’s character felt genuine and unpretentious, despite flaws and all.
It's also crazy to think how incredibly smart Taylor Jenkins Reid is to write a book that is set within a 24-hour time period, which made sense that so much could happen in a short span of time. Not to mention the dynamics that siblings with a complex relationship can experience in just one night.

This will unfortunately be the last book I read by TJR. The only reason I didn't DNF was because this was the only book I'd packed for a holiday.
Slight spoilers.
This entire book was devoted to cheating. Cheating spouses, cheating on everyone. Every page turn, more cheating.
There were so many characters with such excessive backstory only to never see them again that I started skimming and stopped caring.
I enjoyed the ending, where everything tied together, but the actual ending was so sudden.
If I'd brought something else to read, I'd never choose to finish this book. Disappointed because I've enjoyed other TJR books but definitely not again.

Libro.fm Audiobook: Thanks to @librofm for an advanced audio copy of this title.
This is the book everyone is talking about right now. It was just picked for the @readwithjenna book club this month. It is read by my favorite audiobook narrator @justjuliawhelan. She is always my go to narrator—has the perfect smooth voice for male and female characters.
This highly anticipated novel is a bit of a slow burn, the scene of the ultimate one night of year party is slowly set. The famous Nina Riva has a summer party every year and this year, August 1983, her life, family, and marriage have all come to a breaking point (surfer analogy on purpose
