I know, I'm reading way too many fairytale retellings at the moment. They just sound all too awesome and I just want to read them all right away! However, I like how this book has a bigger font and is therefore a quick and easy read. I had a few nights of barely sleeping so I could use something easy today. And, I really love Red Riding Hood retellings! Especially because in most of them she ends up with the wolf.

It's not much of a surprise when we get the first chapter in the second point of view, Will, that we discover he's a wolf. What would a Little Red Riding Hood retelling be if she wouldn't fall in love with the wolf and vice versa? Although I have to admit that this book didn't really feel like a Red retelling. I somehow had the impression the plot was more focussed on Robin and Marian, even though this was Red's and Will's story.

However, I really loved how the wolves fit into this world and story. It's quite clear that even though Red's grandma was killed by a wolf the story is way more complex than she seems to think. And although I really would have loved to see more of the pack and the history of the pack I was quite happy with what we already got, especially since I feel like there is more to come in the sequel to this story, which focusses on Belle.

Because that's the fun part about this entire series. All the characters are somehow connected. We have siblings and cousins and friends. Snow White is the younger sister of the Snow Queen, Red Riding Hood is the Snow Queen's best friend and Robin Hood is Red's cousin. And this tale is connecting all the characters even further. Prince John's brother is Gaston from Beauty and the Beast and Belle is also involved with the pack of wolves.

I can't wait to see what more surprising connections will be revealed in the next book!

3.5 stars. I really like the book, just in parts it could have been so much better. I couldn’t help but prefer it to the first one though, so maybe it’s one of those that get better as the books go along.

quick read

This book seemed rushed to some extent. While a good take on Little Red Riding Hood, it lacked some crucial character development.
