Another excellent book in the series. Not quite as good as Red Dragon. At times the first half of the book feels very aimless. I think this is intentional because our main character is a trainee, but it did affect the flow of the book for me. I was actually shocked about how much this book is about the systematic sexism women faced in the 1980s workplace. It's weird to me how some reviewers are missing the aspect that Thomas Harris is sympathetic of this issue and by displaying it at it's worst it is an indictment of this behavior. Clarice Starling is a fantastically written character. She's doesn't fall into that category of just being written as "strong" but instead has weaknesses which she overcomes in the story.

Hannibal Lector is fully featured in this one. He a part of Red Dragon but not nearly as much as in this one. He's like if Sherlock Holmes was a sociopath. If I had any complaint is that sometimes he is portrayed as nearly super human. His olfactory senses at the very least belong in the Guinness book of world records because my suspension of disbelief falls a part when Hannibal can tell what perfume our main character was wearing YESTERDAY by catching the scent given off by her purse.

Nitpicks aside this is an excellent book. It's worth reading even if you have seen the film.

My favorite movie now one of my favorite books. Getting into the heads of the characters did nothing but improve my love for Clarice and Hannibal

I grew up watching the movie and have always wanted to try reading the book, and I finally did! The movie is a really close adaptation of the book with only a few differences. I had a great time reading The Silence of the Lambs and highly suggest picking it up if you loved the movie.
