A very enjoyable set of short stories, Montalbano works well in short story format, I quite enjoyed the last one explaining the story of how he got his lock picking tools.

I love Montalbano. These stories illuminate the dispair and pointlessness of policing Sicily. However, I miss the inspiration of food and literature on our good detective. Worth a read but nowhere near Camillieri’s best.

This started off really strong-- a quirky compilation of short mysteries/cases in Sicily! Definitely a bit hard to follow sometimes, with names and streets and frankly, an entire world I'm not quite familiar with. That being said, they got a bit tedious (
a random scorned lover emerges
). And then, forgetting I was reading a male author from the 70s and 80s, I was continually jarred by the random mentions of women's bodies and was literally shook by the auction (IYKYK)

I didn't like this book because I didn't like how simple the mysteries seemed. I also found the way the first mystery turned the woman's suggestion into the detectives own idea. Cozy beach reads aren't for me, apparently.
