Bylo to totiž zároveň i krásné a lidské.

A very painful yet moving read. Puts everything into perspective and makes you realise just how fortunate you are

this book was quite slow at times and i listened to it so that sort of helped paint the scenery.

makes me want to get involved and help refuges in some way in the future. this is a deep story about hope amidst a lot of pain. nuri and afra’s relationship too is complicated and made me reflect on the meaning of partnerships. truly went though it all together and they knew each other better than anyone else. two grieving parents. mohammed part was also a good touch

"Where there are bees, there are flowers, and were there are flowers, there is new life and hope."

Broke my heart and then stitched it back up.

A book I both couldn’t leave alone and also had to put down every so often in order to clear my head. Effective movement between the time spent in England waiting for a decision regarding asylum, which was as tense as the journey, and in describing life in war torn Aleppo and the journey from Syria.  I hope it was a fair reflection of what a refugee might experience and can’t start to imagine how those not lucky enough to buy a plane ticket continue from Greece. The psychological trauma manifested itself in different ways for the many characters. A strong end left us not knowing whether our characters would be granted asylum but Mustafa’s success gave hope.
