W O W. Trigger warning - there is a very, very dark ending to the mystery in this book. I don't know that I've ever read a Lynsay Sands book that was this dark.
That being said, the funny parts were the funniest in at least this series. So be forewarned, the reason why the deaths in the mystery happened is upsetting.
I really enjoy this series. This series is generally fun and lighthearted, a Highlander meeting a lady from a neighboring keep, falling in love, and solving a mystery. I'm looking forward to the next 4 to finish it up (or get up to date at least.)

Moderate: Rape and Sexual violence
The content warnings above only happen at the end of the book in solving the mystery. Skipping a chapter as to why the murders happened would keep the book more easy to read.meerkatdash's review

Not so much a romance as a murder mystery. The characters don't spend much time pining, they get together about halfway through the book without much fanfare, probably because they're busy trying to figure out who the murderer is. Despite being set in medieval Scotland, the characters say "okay" among other unexpected modern speech artifacts, which threw me off, but I didn't expect an accurate historical novel here. A fairly well written mystery story - well paced, just enough red herrings to throw you off, and the solve didn't come out of left field. There's a bad sex scene - not written badly, bad as in awkward! - which was funny and unexpected.
The heroine is kind of clueless, but not in an annoying way, and has other positive character traits to balance it out. The hero is affectionate and not overbearing, and his negotiation of consent both in and out of the bedroom is well done.
I definitely enjoyed the descriptions of the day to day running of the keep because I'm a huge nerd like that.

Moderate: Death
Minor: Animal death, Blood, Child abuse, Death, Pedophilia, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual violence, Suicide, Violence, and Vomit
Sexual assault and related warnings do not happen to major characters; almost all mentions are within one scene near the end of the book. To skip:
