The conceit is that these are poems written by Bilbo and Frodo, on long evenings when they were not dating lady hobbits. Consequently it’s a surprisingly engaging look at Middle Earth from the point of view of hobbit culture and fairy tales. I discovered I really like Tolkien’s poetry when it’s read by Derek Jacobi.

Feels like the bedtime nursery rhymes told to the small hobbits in the shire. Some of them are charming but the language is hard to follow at times and I really had to focus.
