Neither of the characters felt like they had much of a personality, outside of just being traumatized by the past.
Also, there were so many odd and awkward similes that the author used. And every time I had to stop and do a double take because they felt so weirdly out of place.

I did feel like the story was a touch rushed and I wanted there to be more back and forth about if Gabriel could trust what he was seeing. That whole plot line was neatly wrapped up by the 5% mark basically and it’s a bummer because it’s a good one.
While there’s definitely some darker elements in the character background it’s much less explicit than other Merikan books.

This author duo has the ability to write some really dark and twisted stories, and that was what I was looking for when I started this one, it just wasn't as dark as I anticipated. It had twisted moments and dark themes but I wanted more from it.
I loved the start and spent a lot of time trying to work out was Abaddon real or was he just a figment of Gabriel's broken brain. As parts came out about Gabriel's torture and abuse at the hands of those who were meant to protect him, my heart went out to him, but at the same time I wasn't quite sure if he was imagining it all.
Abaddon had a number of missing parts to his memories too, so he kept me guessing as to his motivations. I did like the way this was handled, although I still think there are some holes in his memories, but the major things I wanted to know were discussed.
I loved Gabriel and Abaddon together, and I liked that they worked towards a relationship. Two such broken characters really needed the extra space and time to get to that part. I loved where they needed up. It was well done.
I think the middle was what killed this one a bit, as they were full steam ahead going after the crew and then they just kind of stopped and spent time together and it felt like they just weren't on the same train anymore. It did pick back up near the end. I did pick up on one of the twists but couldn't work out why.
I still enjoyed it but wanted/expected more from these authors.
