As someone who went through custody hearings for her children, this book was extremely re-traumatizing.  The attempts at the other side to vilify and subvert is crushing. You move left, they call foul. You move right, they denounce. Either way, you learn to stand still, terrified of judgement and losing your children.  And you realize, all the other side wants is control.  These battles are soul-crushing at best.

JP Delaney was an absolute master at creating horrific tension.  Miles is a classic psychopath- more interested in winning and subversion then he is at the well-being of his children. This book is a slow, torturous ride. And worth every moment…. These are well developed characters with flaws and poor decision-making but this felt like real people making real decisions instead of terrible decisions for the sake of moving the plot along.... 5 Stars. For now, this is my favorite read this year!

I found out about this book while searching for thrillers with multiple reveals and it did not disappoint! I was worried in the first half throughout all the slower tension building for a situation that I could easily see coming but once that reveal happened, the other shoe just kept dropping in ways that made sense and I definitely found it a very compelling read!

I found the characters were easy to empathize with and the energy of their emotions seemed to jump off the page. Definitely keen to check out other books this author has written now!
