I enjoyed the story of the switched babies. I couldn’t image going through this. I couldn’t understand how Maddie and Pete fall for Miles and not see through him. They blindly went along with him. The ending was a surprise.

plot seemed to drag halfway through. overall a steady conflict and interesting build of characters. seems a little too long, but the ending was still rushed.
A fun, totally plausible, compelling mystery story.
I think the author was doing two things here. First, he was telling a mystery story, with good guys and bad guys and the tension of "how will this all resolve?!"
Second, he was trying to bring up aspects of parenting - nature vs. nurture, the meaning of family, parental rights vs. what's best for the kids, etc.
I think he was more successful in the first part. For the second part, these are all interesting questions to contemplate. But when it turns out that one of the characters isn't who the present themselves as, it sort of takes the wind out of a deeper discussion about family. Because whoever you think makes up a family, no one is ever going to argue that a child.

I enjoyed this book very much. I couldn’t guess the ending, at all. I want to take one star away because I think the book is a bit too long. There were many irrelevant details that could be condensed or removed without impacting the plot at all.
I’m giving it four stars because even though I found the book lengthy, it was still very entertaining, and I also learned a thing or two about UK’s healthcare and legal system.
