I have not seen Ralph Breaks the Internet yet, but from what I can tell, this is a simplified version of the movie plot.

This is a Step 3 book for children in grades 1 to 3.

One of the things books based on children's movies seem to struggle with is how much to include. This one felt like it tried adding a little too much and came out kind of choppy, but overall it was good. It covers the main points in the movie, but I think it would be helpful to have already seen the movie before reading the book. I read this with one of the children I work with (who hasn't seen the newest movie, but loves Wreck-It Ralph) and she had lots of questions that I couldn't answer just based on the text and illustrations. But she did enjoy the story and seeing Ralph and Vanellope again.

I enjoyed the illustrations, especially the Ralph clones. Overall, a nice book for fans of Wreck-It Ralph. Interesting incorporation of various internet things (making money by making videos, eBay, viruses). Kind of similar to the Emoji Movie set up.

I was initially intrigued by the concept of this book. Paging through it, the illustrations looked fun and interesting.

While I enjoyed the pictures, the writing is pretty lackluster. It is mostly dialogue with not much of a plot. The illustrations were very entertaining though. I especially enjoyed when Ralph gets wrapped up in words from the book. But the story just wasn't there.

Okay book. Great idea, but not much effort put into execution of said idea. The stickers were a plus though.

My son loved this book. It's actually a pretty clever way to move through the story, though it's not great to read aloud.

There are several books out there that follow this same plot of a character that is either stuck in a book, is going to destroy a book, or are otherwise self-aware. I like all of those other books I have read better than I liked this one. This one just didn't really bring anything new to this trope, nor did it really delve into much outside of this plot line. You didn't really get any characterization outside of the obvious that Ralph likes to "Wreck," there was no humor, no meaning outside of the self-aware state of the fictional character, and the artwork was not particularly alluring. And yes, it's a kids book so I am not expecting it to go into some super detailed character development or complex plot points but nonetheless there are too many other excellent kids books out there that do have more depth. All in all, I give Ralph Wrecks This Book! a 1 out of 5 stars.
