Here's the thing, these are by and large lovely reads.  The only thing that really bugs me is the dad.  I understand different families function in different ways, but the dad is really getting to me!

Calling this book a “mystery” like it says on the cover is a bit generous.
“Mystery” plot line gives Book Scavenger: The Unbreakable Code, budget edition.
Truly is hard to like and feels somewhat “pick me” (insert meme of size 13 Nikes) s she rejects most things that are stereotypically “girly.” I’m glad she turned around on the mermaid camp, though. (Although I, too am skeptical of the mermaid camp??? Why did they want to add that to the story????)
Also, I didn’t realize that so many 6th graders were obsessed with having their first kiss. I feel old.

MHL Potential Title 2023: red
::It’s book three in the series and there were backstory elements that I wondered about. (I have read book one but long enough ago that the details are fuzzy.)
::The characters are 12-13 and are starting to think about kissing. While this may appeal to some kids in elementary I don’t see it having broad appeal.

The reason they could whisk them off to Mermaid Academy is that the trophy mystery wasn’t the real mystery of the book. The real mystery was the potential pirate treasure that had been hidden by Truly’s ancestor.

This is one of my daughter's favorite series, and she expects me to read them as well. :) While Really Truly was not my favorite of the series, it is still quite enjoyable. I appreciate that the family is portrayed positively, and I find the characters likable and genuine and the setting ideal. The mystery was fun, if a bit far-fetched. But sometimes it's nice to escape to a world with some far-fetchedness.

Another fun installment in the Pumpkin Falls series. I really liked this one-the mysteries are always interesting and hold my attention well. Great read!

Another great entry in the Pumpkin Falls series! Perfect to read over the summer. This is tangentially related to the Mother-Daughter Book Club series and will appeal to fans of that as well. The mysteries aren't super strong in this one, but fans of the series will enjoy it, especially if they like mermaids and/or pirates. I highly recommend reading the series in order. Recommended for grades 4 & up.
